Install

One setup command. Then open it anywhere you work.

One command installs DraftMesh and, if you use a coding assistant, connects it. Then draftmesh open starts the full app in your browser. Setup shows what it will change before it writes anything, and local use needs no account.

npm i -g draftmesh && draftmesh setup

Requires Node 20 or newer (free from nodejs.org). If you use a coding assistant, setup offers to connect it and asks before writing anything.

What that command does

A local install you can see.

No hidden connector edits or license key. The free local app needs no account; cloud sync and team sharing use a DraftMesh account.

01

Installs the CLI on your machine

The CLI starts the local DraftMesh service and talks to it only on your own machine. You and your assistants get the same versioned document commands, with no access token to paste in.

02

Copies the bundled assistant skill

Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other local assistants use the bundled skill. Setup prints every destination and asks before it writes; it leaves local MCP configuration alone and never fetches a skill from the network.

03

Checks the result

Setup finishes with the same diagnostics as draftmesh doctor, including skill freshness, assistant compatibility and the local-connection permission that sandboxed shells need.

Start DraftMesh

Run this whenever you want to work. DraftMesh opens in your browser:

draftmesh open

Open specific folders at startup

Use absolute paths, separated by your platform's path separator. Folders you add in the app are remembered on their own.

DRAFTMESH_WORKSPACES=/path/to/notes draftmesh

For AI assistants

Use the local skill or the hosted MCP connector.

Works with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other local assistants through the bundled skill, plus hosted assistants through the DraftMesh MCP connector. Each uses a scoped assistant identity.

npm i -g draftmesh && draftmesh setup

Setup leaves local MCP configuration alone. It copies the bundled skill into each detected local assistant only after showing the destination and asking, and draftmesh doctor verifies the connection. What an agent can and cannot do is in AI assistants.

Desktop app

A double-clickable app is still in progress.

If a terminal command is a barrier for the people you want to bring in, this is the version to wait for. It is the same product in a window — not a fuller one.

No installer yet, and no date. The command above is not a preview of the product — it is the product.

Free forever

What you get, free forever.

None of this changes when the desktop app ships — the free tier stays the free tier.

No account, no upload

The free app never asks you to sign in and never sends your document content anywhere. Cloud sign-in is a separate step you have to take deliberately.

Unlimited documents, no time limit

There is no trial clock and no cap on how many files or folders you work in.

Full version history

Every save is kept, with one-click restore to any earlier version.

Your own AI agent fleet

Run as many agents as you want against your own files, each with its own name on everything it does.

Free forever, local, no account.

Install questions

How do I install DraftMesh?

Run "npm i -g draftmesh && draftmesh setup" in a terminal. That installs the DraftMesh CLI and copies its bundled skill into detected coding assistants. It needs Node 20 or newer. Then run "draftmesh open" to start DraftMesh and open the full app in your browser.

Is there a desktop app I can double-click?

Not yet. A packaged desktop application for macOS, Windows, and Linux is in progress, and there is no installer to download today. What exists right now is the npm package, and it is the same app, started from a terminal and used in a browser.

Do I have to be a developer to run a terminal command?

You need Node 20 or newer (free from nodejs.org) and a terminal. Run the setup command once. After that, run "draftmesh open" whenever you want to start DraftMesh, and it opens in your browser. If a terminal is a barrier for your team, wait for the desktop app. It won't need either.

Will the free app really cost nothing?

Yes. DraftMesh is free forever for one person on one machine — no account, no credit card, no trial period. That is true of the package today and will be true of the desktop app when it ships. Individual and Team have a 14-day trial; you start one from inside the app.

Does it upload my documents?

No. It runs entirely on your machine, reads and writes ordinary .md files in folders you name, and accepts connections only from your own machine. Cloud sign-in and sync exist but stay off unless you deliberately configure them, and a partial configuration leaves it local-only rather than half-connected.

How do I connect an AI assistant?

Run "npm i -g draftmesh && draftmesh setup". Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other local assistants use the bundled DraftMesh skill. Setup shows every file it will copy and asks before writing; it leaves local MCP configuration alone. Run "draftmesh doctor" to verify the result. Hosted assistants connect through the DraftMesh MCP connector to workspaces synced to your account. Sync starts with the Individual plan.

What if setup fails?

Run "draftmesh doctor". It checks skill installation, assistant compatibility and the local-connection permission. If something still fails, email support@draftmesh.com and include its output.
